Flag football and squash will make their Olympic debuts at LA28.
The LA28 Olympic Games are scheduled for July 14 through 30, 2028, across Los Angeles, Southern California and other U.S. host cities. LA28's current plan lists 36 Olympic sports and more than 40 competition venues. The venues span a wide area, so check the map with the schedule before choosing where to stay.
The opening ceremony is on July 14 and will be shared by the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood. The closing ceremony is set for July 30 at the Coliseum. LA28 and Los Angeles Metro publish current information on dates, venues, tickets and transport.
Confirmed dates and ceremony sites
The Olympic Games run from July 14 through July 30, 2028. The Paralympic Games follow as a separate event from August 15 to 27. LA28 publishes separate competition schedules and ticket information for each period. Travelers attending both should plan for the gap between July 30 and August 15. Check the current LA28 home page (opens in a new tab) and its official dates announcement (opens in a new tab) for changes.
The Olympic opening ceremony will take place across the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood. The closing ceremony is scheduled at the Coliseum on July 30. LA28 says the Coliseum will become the first venue to host events at three Olympic Games, following its roles in 1932 and 1984. The official ceremony announcement (opens in a new tab) names both sites.
The venue map and competition schedule
LA28 lists more than 40 competition venues across Los Angeles, Southern California and other parts of the United States. In the Los Angeles region, the published zones include Downtown LA, Exposition Park, Griffith Park, Venice, Long Beach, Pasadena and Anaheim. The map also lists venues in Oklahoma City and several other U.S. cities. A trip that follows a favorite sport could therefore involve more than one city; check the assigned venue for each session before booking transport.
The LA28 venue map (opens in a new tab) and Olympic competition schedule (opens in a new tab) can be browsed by location, day, session or sport. The schedule is subject to change as the Games approach. Plan around the date and venue of each session, especially if your itinerary includes distant zones. Recheck the official schedule before buying a ticket and again closer to departure.
LA28 says the Games will be the first in 80 years without new permanent venues; its plan uses existing stadiums and arenas. Check the current map before choosing a home base, and leave enough time between sessions in different zones.
Sports on the LA28 program
The International Olympic Committee approved five additional sports for LA28: baseball and softball, T20 cricket, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash. Baseball and softball, cricket and lacrosse are returning to the Olympic program. Flag football and squash will make their Olympic debuts at LA28. The short IOC announcement (opens in a new tab) confirms the program decision, while the LA28 Games Plan (opens in a new tab) links the current sport list and event schedule.
The LA28 map places the Comcast Squash Center at Universal Studios and flag football at Exposition Park Stadium. Check the current schedule for session dates and venue updates.
Tickets and official updates
As of October 2026, LA28 says the next opportunity for the general public to buy Olympic tickets will be in 2027, with first-come, first-served sales. Paralympic tickets are also expected to go on sale in 2027. The organizer lists AXS and Eventim as its official ticketing providers. Its ticketing page (opens in a new tab) carries the current sale details and links to official purchase options.
LA28 also lists official hospitality packages through On Location, which combine a session ticket with hospitality services and other package features. Check what each package includes before comparing it with a standard ticket. Ticket inventory and sale dates can change; the official LA28 ticket site (opens in a new tab) carries current updates.
Choose the sports or medal sessions you care about, then compare their dates with the venue map. Use those dates and locations to decide how many days to spend in Los Angeles and whether to visit another host city.
Airports and getting around
LA28's travel information page (opens in a new tab) lists five airports serving the Games area: Los Angeles International (LAX), Hollywood Burbank (BUR), John Wayne (SNA), Long Beach (LGB) and Ontario International (ONT). Compare arrival options with your first venue and accommodation zone. LA28 notes that airlines generally make summer 2028 flights available about 12 months before travel, depending on the carrier, so flight schedules may appear during 2027.
For trips to competition venues, LA28 currently points spectators to public transportation, venue-serving shuttle stops and park-and-ride options. Los Angeles Metro's 2028 Games plan (opens in a new tab) describes a planned Games Enhanced Transit Service linking rail or busway stations and temporary park-and-ride sites to venues, including accessible buses. These are planning details that can change; check both the LA28 transport FAQ (opens in a new tab) and Metro's updates again before traveling.
International visitors should check the current U.S. entry information linked from LA28's travel page. The organizer states that an event ticket does not guarantee entry to the United States. Confirm travel documents separately and coordinate arrival dates with the event schedule.
Where to stay
LA28 recommends staying near the zone where you expect to attend most events. That is a useful starting point because the venue map covers a wide area, including coastal, downtown and suburban locations. Compare the schedule with accommodation before fixing your daily plans; a hotel convenient for one venue cluster may add a long cross-region trip on another day.
If your preferred sessions are concentrated in Los Angeles, use the map to choose a nearby zone and check local transport options from your lodging. The LA28 stay FAQ (opens in a new tab) explains the organizer's current accommodation guidance. If your schedule includes a venue outside Southern California, plan that travel leg separately and leave a buffer around the session.
